CO Register Settings Page – Setting Filters to Automatically Add New Documents

Modified on Wed, 19 Mar at 11:04 AM

When creating a Compliance Obligations Register, you have the option to set the Industrial Sectors, Jurisdictions, Document Status, Document Types, and Topics that are relevant to it. Your selection will determine the new documents that are proposed for your Compliance Obligations Register. Therefore, it is important to choose them carefully.

On the register’s page, you can access the settings of the register by clicking the edit icon pictured below

Select the Industrial Sectors, Jurisdictions, Document Status, Document Types, and Topics that are relevant to the register. New documents added to Nimonik’s library that fall within the filters you set will automatically be added into the register allowing you to stay aware of new potentially applicable documents.

You can select whether you want new documents to be added to your register automatically by using the setting pictured below.

Please note, new versions of documents in your register (revised (repealed and replaced), superseded, new version) will always be added automatically to your CO Register, regardless of the filter setting. This is done to maintain continuity. For Standard Subscribers, this also ensures new versions of Standards are automatically added to your CO Register.

On the same page, you can also determine whether you want to receive actions for a “Removed CLCO clause”

Please note that you will only see the Jurisdictions, Industrial Sectors, Document Types and Topics that your account is subscribed to.

Jurisdictions

Jurisdictions group documents by the legal jurisdiction that has published them and that enforces them. You should only select the jurisdictions that may regulate your activities at the location of the Facility or Facilities that are using the specific Compliance Obligations list.

Industrial Sectors

Nimonik uses Industrial Sectors (Sectors) to group documents by the areas of industry to which they are applicable. In other words, Industrial sectors are the who, who is this document for.

Nimonik determines Industrial Sectors based on the typical business activities that a company would engage in in the given Industrial Sector. Most Industrial Sectors are exclusive. This means that filtering for a specific Sector will only show documents directly for that industrial sector. For example, documents categorized as “Mining Industry” are documents that are specific to the Mining industry and will not include documents specific to other industrial sectors such as Oil & Gas or Agriculture.

However, if a document is common to many industrial sectors, that document will be categorized as “General Industry”. For example, the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 is categorized as General Industry because it is a document that applies to multiple industrial sectors.

While searching for documents for a specific industry in the Nimonik Library, it is important to consider using a combination of filters to see all applicable documents. For example, if you are looking for documents for the Mining Industry, we recommend selecting General Industry + Mining in order to obtain complete coverage for a Mining site.

Document Types

Document Type groups documents by their type. Depending on your subscription, this can include:

  • Internal Documents you have uploaded
  • Standards
  • Notices
  • Orders & Directives
  • Laws
  • General (Gov) Permits
  • Guidance documents

See our dedicated “Document Types” help page for more details.

Document Status

Document Status groups documents by their state of application. Depending on your subscription, this can include Proposed, Published, In Force, and Repealed documents.

Please note that Proposed or temporary legislation becomes Archived when certain deadlines are met.

See our dedicated “Document Status” help page for more details.

Topics

Nimonik uses Topics to group documents according to specific areas of interest. In other words, topics are the what, what is this document about. This is done at two levels:

  • Level 1 Topics describe general areas of interest, such as Environment Management, or Natural Resource Management.
  • Level 2 Topics focus on specific themes within their parent level one topic, such as Greenhouse Gases or Oil and Gas. Level 2 topics also include specific equipment.

Topics can be used to filter and search for documents and clauses in COs and the Library. On the document page, topics that appear in the document text will be highlighted. It is important to note that certain documents may be categorized with multiple topics

A list of all of the topics available on Nimonik can be found here (Note: topics that you are not subscribed to will appear greyed out.).
