TABLE OF CONTENTS
What are Industrial Sectors?
Nimonik uses Industrial Sectors (Sectors) to group documents by the areas of industry to which they are applicable. In other words, Industrial sectors are the who, who is this document for.
Nimonik determines Industrial Sectors based on the typical business activities that a company would engage in in the given Industrial Sector. Most Industrial Sectors are exclusive. This means that filtering for a specific Sector will only show documents directly for that industrial sector. For example, documents categorized as “Mining Industry” are documents that are specific to the Mining industry and will not include documents specific to other industrial sectors such as Oil & Gas or Agriculture.
However, if a document is common to many industrial sectors, that document will be categorized as “General Industry”. For example, the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 is categorized as General Industry because it is a document that applies to multiple industrial sectors.
While searching for documents for a specific industry in the Nimonik Library, it is important to consider using a combination of filters to see all applicable documents. For example, if you are looking for documents for the Mining Industry, we recommend selecting General Industry + Mining in order to obtain complete coverage for a Mining site.
A list of all of the Sectors available for your Nimonik Account can be seen under the “Industrial Sector” filter on the Nimonik Library or on the Account Summary page (Note: Industrial Sectors not included in your subscription will not appear.)
Difference between Topics and Industrial Sectors
Topics define what the document is about. In other words, if you are searching for a document about Environmental Management, or Occupational Health, you can use the topic filter to help identify those documents.
Industrial Sectors define what industry that document is for. In other words, if you are searching for a document directly for the Oil & Gas industry, you can filter for that sector to help identify those documents.
