Nimonik Standards Digital Rights Management (DRM) – No Plugins!

Modified on Mon, 27 Oct at 12:50 PM

The protection of copyrighted intellectual property is important and Nimonik has implemented a Digital Rights Management system to ensure a rich user experience, without the hassle. Nimonik does not use plugins (ie FileOpen) or javascript systems (ie Vitrium).

Nimonik offers:

  • Offline access to standards in the iOS and Android applications. Learn more here.
  • Download a shortcut to your computer for a Standard. Learn more here.
  • Bookmark the URL to a specific Standard
  • A Desktop application to view offline standards on laptops and computers. Available for Windows here and for Mac OS here.
  • Single sign on (SSO) to allow customers to bypass a secondary login
  • Traditional PDF downloads are restricted based on publisher requirements

Similar to Amazon's Kindle, this approach allows Nimonik users to:

  • Avoid locking PDFs to specific computers
  • Avoid forcing users to 'refresh' a PDF
  • Avoid dealing with expiring licenses, lost computers, javascript permissions or plugins
  • Track usage across all devices for optimal budgeting standards
  • Benefit from rich features such as highlighting and markup (Q4 2025)

FAQ

How can I view my Nimonik standards?

Nimonik allows you to view your standards on both its web and mobile apps. For detailed instructions on viewing your standards, please click here.

Can I keep standards open on my device indefinitely?

No, after 15 minutes of inactivity, your session expires. This prevents a user from monopolizing a seat for a publisher that has restrictions on simultaneous users. You will be notified if your session has expired with the below warning message. If this happens, you can simply reopen the page to return to your standard.

Can I download standards?

This depends on the requirements of the publisher. If Nimonik is allowed to offer downloads, the download PDF button will appear on the view standards page. Alternatively, you can download a shortcut to the standard within the Nimonik platform. For offline access, you can use our iOS and Android Applications or our Windows or Mac Desktop Applications.

Can I print my standards?

Currently, Nimonik does not allow users to print Standards directly from the platform. However, you can print via the Desktop Applications.

Why doesn’t Nimonik use FileOpen or other DRM plugins

Customer experience is central to our mission at Nimonik. We believe that this ecosystem approach is more straightforward, convenient, and secure for both customers and publishers.

If my company does not have Single Sign On (SSO) enabled, do I still have full access to my standards?

Yes, all Nimonik features are available to both SSO and local authentication customers. If SSO is not enabled, you will simply need to log in using your email and password.

How can I save standards to my computer?

In the top right corner of the view standards page, you will find a Save shortcut button. If you click it, it will save the page to your computer as an HTML file. You can simply open this file at any time to return to the page.
