Nimonik is excited to introduce a new Document Comparison feature that makes it easier than ever to track changes between different versions of Standards.
This feature is already live and continues to improve - expect exciting enhancements in the near future!
What is Included
Current Coverage:
You can currently compare the latest version of a standard with its immediately previous version.
When a new version is released, you will automatically see a comparison against the version that came before it.
For all other version combinations, the comparison will be greyed out and appear as “Comparison is not available” in the user interface.
Coming Soon:
We are actively working on enabling on-demand comparisons between any two versions of a Standard.
Please note: We are unable to provide comparisons on request at this time.
Restrictions from Standard Development Organizations (SDOs)
As a trusted partner of multiple SDOs, Nimonik adheres strictly to contractual and licensing requirements. Some SDOs place limitations on what we can offer. Specifically, you may notice that:
Comparisons for certain SDOs may not be available
Download and/or print options may be restricted
This is due to specific requirements from the SDOs, such as:
Prohibiting Nimonik from generating its own comparisons
Restricting the ability to download or print comparisons
We appreciate your understanding as we continue to offer this feature while respecting our partners’ policies.
Where to Access the Document Comparison:
The Document Comparison can be accessed by clicking the "View PDF" button located on the Standards' Document Page. To learn how to navigate to this page, please follow this guide.
On the subsequent page, in the top left side of the screen, click on any of the options under "Compare to" to activate the Document Comparison.
Once activated, the PDF will open to the Document Comparison page, showing the selected versions side by side.
At the top of the screen, you will see which versions are being compared.
You can click on a version number to view that version’s text only, without comparison highlights.
By default, the latest version of the standard appears on the right-hand side.
Please note: Some older comparisons may still display the latest version on the left. We are aware of this inconsistency and are working to standardize the layout soon.
To end the comparison, click the "Stop Comparison" button in the top right corner of the screen.
Colour coding system for the Document Comparison:
Light Purple bubbles - Shows the equivalent parts of the document
In the above example, you can see the paragraph beginning with "Products that have..." connects to this equivalent section of the document. Sometimes, these line up nicely, but other times your team will need to follow the light purple bubble to the corresponding section.
Red/Dark Purple - Shows which parts have been added to the newer version, and which parts have been removed from the previous version (Insertions/deletions)
In the above example, ", incorporating corrigendum May 2022" was added to this paragraph in the newer version.
In the above example, the "SYSTEM" shown on the older version was removed for the newer version.
Please note: We are planning to make additions in green and removals in red in the coming months to simplify your work with document comparisons.
Yellow - Parts that were directly modified between versions.
In the above example, you can see “rue de Stassart 35” was modified to be “Avenue Marnix 17”.
